Two Small Farms is a small family farming operation nestled in the rolling hills of Central Texas. Brothers John and Jeff Harding grew up outside the sleepy town of Johnson City on their family’s cattle ranch, Twisted T. After both graduating with ag degrees from Texas A&M, the brothers decided to return to the family ranch and continue the family cattle ranching tradition.
Though the ranch has only produced Certified Angus Beef in recent decades, ten years ago we were inspired by the slow food movement to get our USDA organic certification. Though it was a lot of work to get our initial organic certification, which also requires extensive record-keeping to maintain, we believe that the end result is worth the high-quality product we deliver to consumers. Our goal is to put food on other people’s plates that we would be okay with putting on our own. As we raise the next generation of family ranchers, we increasingly realize the importance of ensuring that the food we give our kids is toxin-free. Having young ones has also engendered our commitment to a model of sustainable ranching and agriculture, so that the land can continue producing for future generations.
Five years ago, Jeff’s wife Sara decided she wanted to try her hand at organic gardening. That first summer of planting, she grew tomatoes, squash, peppers, corn, and more that ended up being too much for both families to consume. Each year, she has continued to expand her garden, and now has 5 acres of land entirely dedicated to her organic farming efforts. Sara and John’s wife, Amanda, sell Harding’s Farm produce to local restaurants and at local famer’s markets. You can also sign up for our annual CSA box subscription for a weekly delivery of our farm’s freshest produce. Farm volunteers get one free CSA box for every 4 hours they work at the farm. Find out more about our volunteer and CSA programs here.
Just recently, we rebranded the Twisted T Ranch and Harding’s Farm to fall under one umbrella brand, Two Small Farms. We hope that you’ll enjoy the final fruits of all the passion we put into raising our cattle and our produce. Happy green eating, from our family to yours.
