Re: Sept. 14th and 13th boxes:

Carrots! What happened last week? Here's Julia's recounting:

1) 9/11 mon am about 8am: Andy tells me there will be red and white carrots in the boxes. Then he reminds me twice to put in recipes (in the email newsletter) for the cooking of them since they're better cooked, not as sweet when they're raw. I do so.

2) 9/12 about 10am: Jeanne puts in carrot recipes in the paper newsletter and gets it done by noon on Tuesday since her youngest in now in kindergarten. The newsletters are printed up before she picks up Amelia at school

3) 9/12 about 1pm: Andy reviews the field again right as they're harvesting the carrots at 1pm on Tuesday. ARGH. They're not big enough. They need to size up. Call Julia! Call Jeanne! sorry Andy, too late! The newsletters are all done. What to put in the shares for the (many) folks who won't receive carrots on Wed and Thursday? Julia says NO to radicchio and sorrel: as many charms as both vegetables have folks are looking forward to carrots to cook.

4) 9/12 about 2pm Andy takes Julia's recommendation to call Billy Peixoto, our neighbor who supplies our fall boxes with apples: YES! Billy has some apples right now.

THE SHORT STORY: some folks got apples instead of carrots because the carrots weren't big enough. When they size up you'll get them!

sorry about any confusion -julia

This photo shows three colors of carrots: from L to R: orange Chantenay: the most familiar to all of us; Red Indian Carrots; White Belgian Carrots: The Red and White are great savory carrots that are best used for cooking for those that are used to super sweet orange carrots in the raw format.

**Some people will receive apples!
